About Ali

As a child, I watched my mother’s every move as a clinical social worker in private practice, and knew I would like my career to go in a similar direction.

I have been working as a psychotherapist since 2006. I graduated from Boston University in 2004 with a BA in Psychology, and received my Masters Degree in Behavioral Medicine and Mental Health Counseling from Boston University School of Medicine in 2006. I began my career as a clinician for individuals and families at a home-based wraparound service agency, and later became a supervisor to other therapists and students. I earned my LMHC (License in Mental Health Counseling) in 2008, and opened my private practice in 2011. That same year, I became a wellness coach through Wellcoaches (affiliated with Harvard University and McLean Hospital).

As a decade long former yoga and fitness instructor, I believe health and wellness play an integral role in our well being. I prioritize working self-care and wellness routines into the lives of my clients. Currently, I do telehealth using TherapyPortal (www.therapyportal.com), a private and HIPAA compliant telehealth service (video sessions or phone depending on your preference) and in person counseling (currently on pause due to the pandemic), and I also do walking therapy sessions with clients who request it.

My Approach:

I structure my therapy sessions based on a mixture of therapeutic styles. I am predominantly a psychodynamic based therapist, but I use facets of cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy , and dialectal behavioral therapy. I work with each client to help identify where you are feeling stuck, what kind of changes you would like to see, barriers that are getting in the way, and how work around those barriers. We will work together to create a plan to achieve the goals you have in various areas of your life. Some clients just find therapy helpful as a non-judgmental space to work through emotions and life circumstances, to find connection and support, and to have a non-biased sounding board.
